On the reiki first degree course a number of standard hand positions are taught.
The reason that reiki can be seen to be fairly prescriptive at this stage is so that you begin to get a feel for the energy and so that you can focus on sending the energy rather than thinking about where you should or could work around the body.
As you begin to become a little more experienced you move away from this way of working and you begin to use your intuition.
On the reiki second degree course there is a technique that is called reiju ho.
This is a technique that teaches you how to allow your hands to guide you.
Your hands are guided by your intuition and reiki is an intuitive energy practice.
